Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

-Nelson Mandela

I help individuals and organizations who are seeking to improve their racial diversity, equity, and inclusion practices. Because people have varied levels of awareness, there is not a one-size-fits-all diversity training. Therefore, I offer different levels of training depending on a person’s current level of engagement. Through a combination of interactive teaching, group activities, and individual awareness exercises, participants will leave with a greater awareness and action steps to take to help create more inclusive and productive environments.

my story

I first learned about racial injustice when my father told me stories about the racism that he, his immediate family, and his grandparents experienced as people of color living in a white rural farming community. As I child I didn’t know my dad was biracial or that his grandmother was African American and his grandfather was Native American Indian. Even though his skin was darker than mine, I knew him only as Dad. Coming to learn this truth was a catalyst for my interest in the work of racial justice. Throughout my personal and professional life, I have researched and written on racial justice in education and religion, including the confluence of whiteness and Christianity.

However, the most important aspects of my work have been the internal processes of learning what it means that I have benefited from white racial privilege and from the systemic structures that were built to oppress parts of my own family.

I approach the work of racial diversity, equity, and inclusion from the understanding of my own consciousness that has been molded in a country that has historically and unjustly elevated whiteness above other races. I strive to allow my faith to shine the light of truth and justice in my own heart and mind. Through my own story, practice, and research, I help individuals and organizations to create racially equitable communities where all members thrive.
